- Before you switch, turn on backup in the Authenticator app. On iPhone it saves to iCloud; on Android it's Settings > Cloud Backup.
- Keep your old phone. Don't wipe it or trade it in yet.
- Install Microsoft Authenticator on the new phone.
- On a computer, go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and approve the sign-in on your OLD phone.
- Click Add sign-in method, choose Microsoft Authenticator, and scan the QR code with the new phone (tap +, then Work or school account).
- Approve the test notification on the new phone, then sign out of Outlook and Teams and sign back in using only the new phone.
- Once that works, delete the old phone from the Security info page. Then you can trade it in.
